Description
One of the most beautiful features of Ricketts Glen State Park is the beautiful colors of the mineral laden rocks and boulders that are found throughout the gorge. The striking hues of these unusual red rocks were so notable that the nearest village was actually named “Red Rock” by the early settlers.
This lovely red color is most evident here, at Adams Falls, at the very bottom of the glen. When these boulders are dry they look more like a milky pink shade …but when they are found under the waters of Kitchen Creek, this rich red-brown color magically appears.
This photograph was taken using a Canon EOS 30D camera, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 17mm focal length. The aperture was set to f/14 with a 4.0 second exposure. A Manfrotto tripod and head were used. The mirror was “locked up” and a remote shutter release cable was employed to eliminate camera movement.
Adams is the first waterfall at the southern-most point in the gorge of Ricketts Glen State Park. Ricketts Glen is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township in north eastern Pennsylvania, USA. This beautiful spot is about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.

Excellent exposure timing, really like the sense of movement of the water over the top of the rock. fv

Much appreciated, Byron! I stood near this spot many times to shoot Adams Falls over the years. This time I wanted to capture the color of the stream bed rock, as well as the flow. Thank you! Gene
