Description
The summer sun sets early in the deep gorge below Ganoga Falls in Ricketts Glen. The golden sunlight and long shadows can be seen at the very top of the great Ganoga Waterfall in this image. Having grown up in a deep valley, early sunsets due to the shadow a tall ridge feel very familiar. It got dark so early there that our street was actually called "Shortest Day Road". This light takes me back to my teenage years, when our home was in twilight while everyone else was still seeing plenty of bright sunshine.
Ganoga Falls is the tallest of the 22 named waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park, with a dramatic 94 foot drop. It is about 3 mi. from the Trail Head parking area, on the Ganoga Glen Falls Trail. That's about half of the way to Lake Jean at the top of the gorge. The trail has a 1,350 foot elevation difference, from Trail's Head to Lake Jean.
This photo was captured in the evening of Friday, August 16th, 2013 with a Canon EOS 5D camera body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at the 33mm focal length. The shutter speed was 15.0 seconds at f/16, ISO 100.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located along RT-118 in north eastern Pennsylvania, near the village of Red Rock, Pennsylvania, USA.

Wonderful work, this is a great series!;)
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very kindly, Jack! I am working on a photo book that will feature 25 of the waterfalls in Ricketts Glen, as each one appears in every season. I only need 2 more summer shots and three winter views to complete the project. I started capturing the photos for this series in 2008. I'm getting very close to completing the set now. Best regards, Gene
