Description
Ample snow melt runoff was still tumbling over Cayuga Falls at a furious pace, on this damp April morning. This normally tame eleven foot tall waterfall is located a short distance upstream from the really big one in the glen, Ganoga Falls. This rushing stream is called Kitchen Creek, running along the Ganoga Glen Trail in Ricketts Glen State Park.
Cayoga Falls is the third named waterfall down from the Rose Lake parking lot in Ricketts Glen. This scene was captured during a hike with photographer Mark Van Scyoc and his son, Brighton.
The photograph was shot in April of 2011 with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was f/11 with a shutter speed 1/2 second. The lens was set at the 17mm focal length. The camera’s ISO setting was 100. A Manfrotto 550B tripod and 222 head were used.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
