Description
The atmosphere was so perfectly clear that the sky appeared to be the deepest shade of blue ever. Totally unfiltered sunlight was shining down directly on Ozone Falls and Kitchen Creek in Ricketts Glen.
It is usually preferable to try to shoot waterfalls on days when the light isnt quite as intense as this. However, the flawless early spring morning seemed just right for shooting this site in all its radiant glory.
This image of Ozone Falls was captured on May 10th, 2011. It was taken with a Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 17mm focal length. The aperture was f/19 with a 1/6th second shutter speed at ISO 100. An ND8 Neutral Density filter was mounted on the lens with a Circular Polarizer in front. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
Ozone falls is located in the Glen Leigh gorge. It is the fourth named waterfall above the Waters Meet Point in Ricketts Glen.

Love this one! One of your best! Also probably my favorite Ricketts Glen Falls!
Gene Walls replied:
Thanks a lot, Robert! Greatly appreciated! I'm really pleased that you like this shot so much. I almost gave up on this one, because the sun was so incredibly bright and the shadows were so harsh. I'm glad I took the time to give it a try. Kindest regards, Gene

Beautiful shot Gene. Great perspective and choice of shutter speed. Do you find you have to bracket to get a shutter speed that fits the water flow, or do you have that down to an art now? V+F
Gene Walls replied:
Thanks, Randy! I wish I did have it "down to an art"... but I'm certainly NOT there yet. Yes, I always bracket my shots, especially when the sunlight is so totally overpowering. Bracketing is the only way I know of to be fairly sure that the exposure will be acceptable. Good ND filters are a necessity in this situation, for me. Kindest regards, Gene
