Description
What a wonderful day this was! This shot was captured during a hike through Ricketts Glen with photographer Mark Van Scyoc and his son, Brighton. The morning started out less than promising, with light rain and a dreary haze. By the time we had reached Delaware Falls, our sixth waterfall of the hike, the skies were beginning to brighten a bit and the rain had stopped. However, the thick morning mist was still hanging in the air, adding a mysterious moody light to the scene.
Delaware Falls is not a very tall waterfall, but the brisk spring runoff was giving it's extremely wide "veil" a whole new personality. This is the strongest flow I have ever seen here. It was an incredible place to be.
Delaware Falls is found along the Ganoga Glen branch of the waterfall trail "loop" in Ricketts Glen, just downstream from Seneca Falls.
This photograph was captured on Monday, April 25th, 2011 with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was set to f/19 with a shutter speed 1 full second at the 19mm focal length, ISO 100. The photo is as-is, just as the camera saw it, with no cropping or enhancements.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
