Description
This is the first waterfall we encountered on a beautiful spring day of hiking in Ricketts Glen. I had hoped that we might get to this site before the sun’s rays had reached the face of the waterfall, but we were just a few minutes late for that. I actually enjoyed the way the morning shadows and bright sunlight added an exciting dimension to the rushing water of Onondaga Falls.
This image was shot with a Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the widest focal length of 17mm. The aperture was f/11 with a 1/8th second exposure, ISO 100. A Manfrotto tripod and pistol grip head were used with a remote shutter release.
Onondaga is the last waterfall at the highest point on the Glen Leigh Trail in Ricketts Glen. It is very near the junction with Highland Trail, at the very top of the gorge.
Ricketts Glen is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. This is about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
