Description
It was getting late, well past sunset in early summer, as we were retuning from a friend's home in the Wilkes Barre area. My wife kindly agreed to let me stop at Adams Falls to see if there was enough light available to capture a very long exposure shot of the falls. This is the result of a one minute and ten second exposure, taken in the dark woods of Ricketts Glen State Park.
Fortunately, Adams is the first waterfall at the very bottom of the gorge in Ricketts Glen, just down the hill from the Evergreen Parking Area. It is the only waterfall south of RT-118 in the Glen. and the only falls that are reachable as nightfall approaches.
This image was shot with a Canon 30D DSLR camera body, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 17mm Ultra-Wide focal length. The aperture was set to f/9 with a very long 70 second exposure, ISO 100. A Manfrotto tripod and pistol grip head were used with a remote shutter release cable.
Ricketts Glen is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. This is about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
