Description
As truly beautiful as the large pink and white flowers of a magnolia tree may be, the center cluster of colorful carpels and stamen is just as interesting to view. When you observe these blossoms very closely, you might be amazed by the loveliness and complexity of the blossom’s center cone-like floral axis.
This extremely closeup 1:1 macro photo was captured on March 23rd, 2012, just before sunset. It was photographed from the top step of an eight foot ladder. A Canon EOS 30D camera was used, with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro Prime lens. The aperture was set to f/5, with a 1/80th second exposure (no flash). A Manfrotto tripod was used with the legs firmly attached to the ladder, for maximum stability.
This magnolia tree is located in my neighbor’s front yard, in the city of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The wind was determined to keep me from getting this shot. With a little patience, I was able to wait for a lull in the breeze, just long enough to allow me to capture this photo.

A fabulous shot of a white magnolia. The pinks adds interest and really gives the flower it's shape. A wonderful shot.
