Description
Around every turn, there is another visual surprise that you have never seen anywhere else on earth. Your eyes are filled with the magic of natures amazing sculpture, slowly crafted out of solid stone. This gentle little stream, called Glen Creek, has meticulously shaved away bits and pieces of the earth's stony crust to reveal these sedimentary layers and mysterious narrow spaces.
The steep walls of the canyon only allow small slivers of sunlight to illuminate a few selected spots in the narrowest sections of the gorge. This will only happen at certain times of the day. When you are blessed with a fleeting view of those special glowing places, it actually makes you pause for a moment to catch your breath. With camera in hand, it is possible to record what you have seen, to share that rare feeling with others.
Featured here is Pluto Falls, in the narrow and winding Spiral Gorge section of the glen. It is about one mile in from the lower starting point of the main trail.
Watkins Glen State Park is located at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, in Watkins Glen, New York, USA. This beautiful gorge can be found in the Finger Lakes region, in the southern central portion of the state.
This photograph was captured with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS DSLR body. The aperture was f/4, shutter speed was 1/20th second at the widest focal length of 25mm. The camera & Lens were mounted on a Manfrotto tripod with a Manfrotto 222 ball head.
