Description
The "Blue Bridge" connects Cumberland, Maryland to Ridgeley, West Virginia across the north branch of the Potomac River. There are plans to replace this old landmark due to concerns that the small dam below it has been limiting fish migration to the headwaters farther upstream.
The Potomac River has seen dramatic improvements in water quality, after diligent efforts to reverse the effects of hundreds of years of poor management and abuse. Now that fish are thriving here again, additional improvements are planned to return the river to a more natural state. The idea is to encourage a revival of the ancient fish spawning areas.
This bridge has been an important part of life in Western Maryland and northern West Virginia. I wanted to capture this old blue icon from the days on my youth, so I could remember it clearly when, or if, it's gone one day.
This photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L Zoom lens, at the 30mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/500th sec at f/8, ISO 400 (it was a very overcast day). A Manfrotto, tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable.

Thanks a lot, Byron! When I was a teenager, one of my best friends lived within a stone's throw of this old bridge. Kindest regards, Gene
