Description
Early spring offered a new range of options for capturing the great landmarks in Ricketts Glen. The park’s famous hemlocks, conifers and pines display their greenery year-round, but all of the deciduous trees here were still leafless. Before the bare trees had gotten their seasonal green plumage, there was an opportunity to find a different angle for capturing the majestic glory of Ganoga Falls. From mid spring through late autumn, this view of the waterfall would have been mostly hidden, beautifully obscured, yes …but obscured none-the-less. It was a wonderful sight from high on the ridge. Even from this lofty perch, the thundering roar of the waterfall was extremely loud, as it echoed throughout the gorge.
Ganoga Falls is the fourth listed waterfall from the top of the gorge in Ricketts Glen.
This photograph was taken Monday morning, April 25th of 2011, with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was f/11 with a shutter speed 1/2 second. The lens was set at the 17mm focal length, ISO 100. A Manfrotto 550B tripod and 222 head were used.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
