Description
This is the old Moreland Baptist Church, located on Moreland Baptist Road where it meets German Road. This rural setting can be found between Lairdsville and Unityville, in eastern Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, USA.
This scene reminds me of a wonderful painting by the well-known local artist, David Armstrong. I tried my best to capture the same serene mood that Armstrong's watercolor painting always brought to me.
The old Moreland Baptist church was built in 1882.
This photo was shot handheld with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 MK II zoom lens at 50mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/350th sec. @ f/9.5 and the ISO was set to 100.

Love those old country churches. This one is so stark and simple. Beautiful. l/v
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very kindly, Linda! Yes, you are so right about the simplicity of the construction. In fact, the "steeple" appears to be just two sheets of plywood with the ends filled in with triangular panels. I think it was a quick fix for some recent damage. Wonderful wishes, Gene

Beautiful scene - just as well there are trees in the background, or one might not be able to find this church in the snow! F&V
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very much for your kind words and a good laugh, Richard. Without the trees this could possible be a blank sheet of white paper with the same title. Ha, ha! Best wishes, Gene

I just love small churches like this, reminds me of the one I use to attend back in the 50's as a child. It was built in 1890.. Wonderful shot Gene! v/f
Gene Walls replied:
Thanks, Donna! It's such a simple building, but its understated charm grabbed me as I was passing by. Kindest wishes, Gene
