You are viewing the F. L. Ricketts Waterfall, as it appeared in the morning on an early October day. A soaking rainstorm had ended before I set out to hike through Ricketts Glen State Park. This was the second stopping point of my trip. The sun was already up before I got to this site, but thick clouds were still hanging around. The overcast sky gave the scene a dark, damp, slightly mysterious atmosphere.
You can see that this is a “stepped” type of cascade, with many small drop-offs, before the water finally reaches the pool at the bottom. When the water levels are just right (like today), it looks like thousands of old fashioned Slinky toys are constantly being released from the crest of F. L. Ricketts Falls.
This photo was captured from the base of the falls, at the edge of Kitchen Creek. F. L. Ricketts can be found upstream from Shawnee Falls, not too far below Onondaga Falls, near the top of the Glen Leigh gorge.

I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's.
