Artist's Description
This is the upper section of Conestoga Falls on the Ganoga Glen trail in Ricketts Glen State Park. The snow on the mountain is melting and the late winter runoff has begun.
Ricketts Glen is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in north eastern, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre.
This photo was taken in the afternoon of March 2nd, 2011 on a winter hike with Kevin Hart.
The image was captured with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 20mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/8th sec at f/11, ISO 400. A light Bilora Super-Biloret tripod was used with a Bogen head.

About Gene Walls
I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...

Pretty impressive and well worth the time spent there! f/v
Gene Walls replied:
Thanks, Eti! I was able to capture 13 of the 22 waterfalls in the glen during that trip. It was an unforgettable trek over the snowy ice-covered trails. Kindest wishes, Gene

Gene...it's beautiful!! But 9 hours in the snow!! I'm impressed =)
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you so much, Jordan! Winter shooting in Ricketts Glen requires planning and a real commitment to make it all the way through. Many of my best memories will always be of my two winter hikes there. Both treks used up every minute of available daylight, and then some. The hike out was in the dark for each trip. I hope to be able to do it at least one more time, but maybe a little quicker next time. Kindest regards, Gene

Brrrr! Beautiful but so cold looking, Excellent work fv
Gene Walls replied:
Thanks a lot, Byron! Even with good crampons, I almost fell into the drink at this spot (there is a nasty drop-off just to the right of this view). That would have been painfully cold, but fortunately, I was able to stay dry for the entire 9 hour hike. Kindest regards, Gene
