The Conestoga Waterfall is often often overlooked in Ricketts Glen, especially during the summer months. I have been here when there was barely a trickle of water going over this gentle spillway. Fortunately, this year there was a nice flow making its way over the slopping boulders that are known as Conestoga Falls.
Conestoga is located half way between the Tuscarora and Mohican Waterfalls. If you are hiking upstream from Tuscarora, and can see Mohican Falls in the distance, you are among the visitors who have missed Conestoga. The site is to the right and slightly down hill from the Ganoga Trail. Summer growth can easily hide this small landmark. However, an official park sign is mounted on the hillside, just above Kitchen Creek, to positively identify this lovely spot. It's worth finding.
The image was captured with a Canon 5D Full Frame camera using a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the widest 17mm focal length. An ND-8 neutral density filter was mounted on the lens...
I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). More of a gentle slide than a vertical plunge on this one, Gene, and none the less beautiful for it! Looks like we can see on the right how much rock has been worn away over time, even at this gentle rate of descent. Another delicious capture! F&V#8
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you so much for your extremely thoughtful comment, Richard! This site is overlooked by so many hikers, to their loss, in my opinion. Kindest regards, Gene

Gene Walls replied:
Greatly appreciated, Byron! It's not the most impressive waterfall in the glen, but it's surrounded by beautiful woods and very unusual boulders. I love photographing this site. Kindest regards, Gene

Gene Walls replied:
Thanks a lot, Eti! It certainly is a very peaceful site. I rarely ever see other hikers here. It often goes unnoticed because it is kind of hidden from the trail. I stop here on every trip. Kindest wishes, Gene
