Artist's Description
On a previous hike through Ricketts Glen last summer, I photographed this small natural spillway and called it "Nameless Waterfall". It does not appear on any maps of the park. Recently, Tim Devine discovered the same spot and named his photo "Forgotten Falls". Each is such an appropriate description that I decided to use both terms in my title for this capture.
Often, especially during dry summers, this stream offers barely a trickle. It is a small feeder tributary of Kitchen Creek. This small stream runs from the Old Beaver Dam to the Ganoga branch of Kitchen Creek, at the footbridge at Mohican Falls.
The falls are very easily missed. It is hidden behind a huge fallen tree, with lots of thick undergrowth surrounding the area. This spot can be found just off of the Ganoga Glen trail, a short distance upstream from Conestoga Falls. Heavy October rains had raised the water levels here, making this "secret" site a wonderful place to find. If I had a say in the matter, I...
About Gene Walls
I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Gene, this is yummy. I like the POV. I think of slinkys rolling over the steps. I too am drawn to waterfalls for the reason you mentioned, they change every day and season. I adore this whole gallery and the theme behind it. Great title.
