Description
Tuscarora Falls is one of the most beautiful sights in all of Ricketts Glen State Park. I especially like the view from just below the falls. The split flow at the bottom is so interesting to see from that angle. There is a large flat boulder that defines the lower section of the waterfall. It gives this site a truly unique, instantly identifiable appearance.
However, on this trip, I was stricken by the beauty of the wild landscape that surrounds Tuscarora Falls. When all of the lush foliage is present, for nearly nine months of the year, it is difficult to see the steep terrain that encompasses this place. One of the advantages of visiting here during the winter season, beyond the obvious visual impact of the ice and snow, is the ability to view the actual topography, without so many obstructions.
Very soon, all of these bare trees will be sporting their glorious green leaves and the ground will be carpeted with mosses and ferns. As lovely as that will be, this particular view of Tuscarora Falls will no longer be available. A photo from this spot will be a nice picture of emerald hued foliage... with only a hint of a waterfall beyond. I grabbed this more inclusive shot while I still could.
Tuscarora Falls is the second waterfall above the Waters Meet point, on Ganoga Glen trail in Ricketts Glen State Park.
Ricketts Glen is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between the cities of Williamsport and Wilkes Barre.
This photo was taken on March 2nd, 2011 on a winter hike through Ricketts Glen with Kevin Hart. It was shot handheld with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 17mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/125th sec at f/4, ISO 400.

Thank you so much, Jack! I tried to return to shoot this waterfall again yesterday, but a nasty snowstorm forced me back down the trail before I got there. Kindest regards, Gene
