Description
March 19th is officially the last day of winter in the northern hemisphere. Don't tell that to the pearl hyacinths in my front yard. These tiny flowers chose today to blossom, together with the forsythia and daffodils behind our house. This is the first time I can ever remember that the spring flowers were in full bloom, before the first day of spring.
This 1:1 macro photo was captured on March 19th, 2012 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It was taken with a Canon EOS 30D through a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/15th sec at f/6.3. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod and pistol grip head were also used. It was shot upside down with the stalk of the tripod suspend between the tripod's legs to get the camera down to ground level. A remote shutter release cable was used with the mirror locked up to avoid camera shake. This image was cropped to the 8X10 format and inverted to display right side up, but it is otherwise untouched.

They are lovely Gene, I hope your flowers survived! v
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very much, Donna! Yes, they survived very nicely. This was shot last year, when we had the warmest spring ever. This year they bloomed again, just recently, but were blown over by strong winds in a storm. They're still there, but not in good enough condition for a new photo. Kindest wishes, Gene
