Description
My Moms flower garden, which is always beautifully kept, was looking especially pretty this year. Countless bumble bees were finding my mothers flowers absolutely irresistible. This handsome worker was completely unaware of my presence (or unconcerned) even though my macro lens was nearly on top of him.
I am not exaggerating when I say that there were literally hundreds of bees covering this bush. I actually had a tough time isolating one subject for this shot. Almost all of my photos had groups of bees within the frame, but I was trying to capture one lone specimen, here he is.
This true 1:1 macro photo was captured in Stone Mountain, Georgia, USA, on September 14th, 2012. It was taken with a Canon EOS 30D camera body, through a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. The aperture was set to f/7.1 with a shutter speed of 1/250 second @ ISO 100. A Manfrotto tripod and head were used, with a remote shutter release cable. The mirror was locked up to prevent camera shake. The image was slightly cropped, but is otherwise untouched.
