Description
Last year's remaining carpet of fallen leaves created the perfect backdrop for all of the new spring growth around Erie Falls. Heavy snow had accumulated very early and continued to add up all winter, preserving most of autumn's colorful leaves. The waterfall was still gushing with winter's ample melted snow runoff. That continuous musical rumble is one of the most relaxing sounds in nature.
The sweet smells of spring were very strong in the calm air. The temperature was perfectly comfortable, but thankfully, the flying insects had not really become very noticeable yet. The taste of chewing on a tiny new sassafras leaf completed my total immersement in the glory of the day in Ricketts Glen.
Sight, sound, smell, taste and touch, all were treated to the best experience that nature could offer. All senses were both soothed and excited by this magical environment. Most importantly, the human soul is refreshed by the simple natural things that make life worth living, that makes life worth celebrating!
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, about half way between the cities of Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
Erie waterfall is found just above the Waters Meet point, the first named falls along the Ganoga Glen trail while hiking upstream through the gorge.
This image was captured with a Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the widest focal length of 17mm. A ND4 neutral density filter was stacked on the lens, with a circular polarizer in front. The aperture was set to f/16. Shutter speed was 2 full seconds at ISO 100. A Manfrotto 550B tripod and 222 pistol grip head were used with a remote shutter release cable.

I really like the sense of light in this scene, Gene. Beautiful.

Thank you very much! I was very fortunate to have sunlight that was not "washing out" the face of the falls on this visit. Best regards, Gene
