Description
Shawnee Waterfall is still one of my favorite sites in Ricketts Glen. Shawnee is located directly above the Huron waterfall, near the top of Glen Leigh in Ricketts Glen State Park. Like Huron, there has been this fallen tree wedged against the waterfall for decades.
This shot was captured from a short distance below the falls, just beyond the huge mound of boulders that surround the falls plunge pool.
Ricketts Glen State Park features this beautiful wilderness area, located in the north eastern region of Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest community to the park is the village of Red Rock, situated at the junction state routes RT-118 and RT-487.
This photo was taken on September 10th, 2013 with a Canon EOS 5D DSLR body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens at the 23mm focal length. The shutter speed was 2.8 seconds at f/9, ISO 100, in RAW format. An ND-8 Neutral Density filter was used on the lens while the camera was mounted on a Manfrotto heavy duty tripod. A remote shutter release cable was used.

Such a beautiful detailed view of this delightful place, Gene! F&V#9
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you most kindly, Richard! That pile of boulders in the foreground is where I stood for my FAA avatar photo. This remote landmark is really special to me. I'm so glad it delights you! Kindest regards, Gene

Gene this is beautiful, your waterfall images would make a great book …L/F
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you most kindly, Kandy! It just so happens that I am working a photography book of the waterfalls in Ricketts Glen, in all four seasons. I'm getting very close to having all of the photos completed. The book will show all 23 waterfalls, as they look in each season. Winter has been the most challenging, by far. As soon as enough snow has fallen, I'll be back to get the last shots I need. Kindest regards, Gene
Pamela Meredith

Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very much, Pamela! Autumn leaves around all of the falls are truly amazing. It's my favorite time of the year to be there. Kindest regards, Gene

This is beautiful! We have been here once, on what was supposed to be a 4 mile hike, ended up about 7 miles. That is what happens when you take a short cut :)
Gene Walls replied:
Ha, ha! Yes, 7 miles is about normal for my hikes through Ricketts Glen, shortcuts or not. I'm so glad you have see this incredible place with your own eyes. Thank you very kindly, Trina! Best wishes, Gene
