Description
During a family trip to West Virginia, I couldn't stop myself from seeking out a few waterfalls to shoot. The wild hills and streams in "Mountaineer Country" offer a lot of beautiful nature lover's sites, including plenty of white water and waterfalls.
This is one of the many falls on Decker Creek, between Masontown and Cascade on Route 7, a few miles east of Morgantown, WVa, USA. The shoreline is absolutely covered with rhododendron bushes. I will have to return here again next year, when the azaleas are in full bloom. I expect that it might be even more gorgeous in late spring than it is in the fall.
The scene was captured on Friday, October 8th, 2010 with my Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 17mm focal length. A CP Polarizer and ND-8 Neutral Density filter were mounted on the lens to reduce the shutter speed. The aperture was stopped down to f/16 to keep the foreground leaves and hanging grass in focus. Shutter speed was 1.5 seconds. The camera was mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, with a Manfrotto 222 Pistol Grip head. A remote shutter release cable was also employed.
