Description
I think this is the best definition for the popular made-up word "Rocktober". A giant monolith of solid rock, standing in the middle of a beautifully carved natural spillway, viewed in the month of October (no beer or loud music required).
Murray Reynolds had very few trees that were displaying fall's bright colors on this early October day. I had brought a longer lens with me, specifically for this site, but I decided to take a wider shot. I wanted to include a couple of the turning trees in the photo so the correct season would be more obvious.
The Murray Reynolds waterfall is the first landmark visitors see when they begin their hike from the RT-118 parking area, at the bottom of the lower falls trail.
This photograph was captured on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014, on a solo autumn hike through Ricketts Glen. The shot was captured with a Canon EOS 5D camera through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 40mm focal length. The exposure was 1/5th of a second at f/10.0, ISO 100. A 77mm ND-4 Neutral Density filter was mounted on the lens. The camera was securely mounted on a Manfrotto 055CLB tripod with a Manfrotto 222 pistol grip head. A remote shutter release cable was also used.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
