Description
Aaron’s Cascade isn’t an official waterfall site in Ricketts Glen. You won’t find so much as a mention it on any park maps or in any trail guides. That’s just the name that several of my friends use to identify this location for easy reference. The name was coined after Aaron Glenn Campbell showed a special fondness for photographing this unique little spillway.
On a solo hike a couple years ago, I was bent over my camera setting up a shot here, completely immersed in the task. I was startled when I heard someone calling out my name. Of course, it was Aaron, with his friend Tim Devine. I was aware that they planned to be in the Glen that day, but unexpectedly crossing paths at this particular spot was surprisingly appropriate.
This spot on Kitchen Creek is located about half way between the B. Reynolds and R. B. Ricketts waterfalls.
This photograph was captured on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014, on a solo autumn hike through Ricketts Glen. The photo was shot with a Canon EOS 5D camera through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 40mm focal length. The exposure was 1.0 second at f/6.3, ISO 100. A 77mm ND-4 Neutral Density filter was mounted on the lens. The camera was securely mounted on a Manfrotto 055CLB tripod with a Manfrotto 222 “Pistol Grip” head. A remote shutter release cable was also used.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
