Description
Good morning to you, Shawnee Falls! This image gave me chills when I viewed it on my big monitor for the first time. I was very pleased by the bright red, orange and gold foliage, prominently positioned just above the spillway. It was especially thrilling to see how the first faint rays of early morning sunlight appeared on the canyon wall. I couldn’t have hoped for more… a respectable flow, perfect morning light and some obvious signs of the fall season. That’s what an October hike to Shawnee Falls is all about.
The spot where this photo was captured is located in Kitchen Creek, along the Glen Leigh Trail. Shawnee can be found some distance downstream from F. L. Ricketts Falls and just a few steps above the top of Huron falls.
This photograph was captured on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014, on a solo autumn hike through Ricketts Glen. The photo was shot with a Canon EOS 5D camera through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 17mm focal length. The exposure was 2.0 seconds at f/11, ISO 100. A 77mm ND-4 Neutral Density filter was mounted on the lens. The camera was securely mounted on a Manfrotto 055CLB tripod with a Manfrotto 222 pistol grip head. A remote shutter release cable was also used.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
