Description
With only an hour available to visit Swallow Falls State Park, I rushed down to the Youghiogheny River to capture a few quick nature photos. There were four waterfalls here that I really wanted to shoot, but I had to limit myself to only two of them. Anyone who knows me would realize that it was extremely difficult for me to give up seeing two beautiful waterfalls. However, I was attending (and shooting) a wedding at Deep Creek Lake and I had just enough time to squeeze in a couple of waterfalls (between wedding events). Most of the wedding party stopped here for a few photos before going to the reception. I ran in the opposite direction to photograph waterfalls, so I could capture the falls without a crowd of very well dressed people in the shots. To me, this made perfect sense. Two waterfall photos are twice as good as none at all.
You are viewing the Upper spillway of Swallow Falls, on a crystal clear late summer day. Swallow Falls is located near the western border of Maryland, in Garrett County. This spot is 9 miles from the town of Oakland, MD, on Harrington Manor Road. The park is near the West Virgina state line.
The shot was captured with a Canon EOS 5D camera, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the 17mm focal length. The exposure was 0.4 sec @ f/11, ISO 100. A Manfrotto tripod and head were used, with a remote shutter cable.

AH just to dip in!! Sigh, the summer is over! f/v
Gene Walls replied:
Yes, the water was cold, not a single swimmer to be found. In mid summer there would have been crowds of people here in the river (blocking my shot). Kindest wishes, Gene

Looks an absolutely delightful location, trees crowding right to the banks, and with both white water and a more placid spot that looks promising for actually getting in the water... Enticing capture, Gene! F&V#6
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you very much! A delightful place, this truly is, Richard! I grew up very near here and have always loved this watery wilderness park. I have splashed in these waters many times. BUT, not on this visit, though... I was dressed for a wedding. LOL! Kindest regards, Gene
