What a gorgeous wilderness area to visit, even on a damp drizzly day. It’s know as Pennsylvania State Game Lands #13, but you don’t need to be a hunter to enjoy this truly pristine nature area. This lush mountain forest is home to quite a few fantastic waterfalls… among them is “Big Falls”, the beautiful landmark you see pictured here.
The reason that these waterfalls, streams and forest are so completely untouched by the destructive “hand of man” is because the site is fairly difficult to reach. The terrain is very steep and rugged, perfect for discouraging the type of “people” (I use that term loosely) who tend to leave ugly trash and destruction in their wake. There are no trails here, blazed or otherwise, just undisturbed wilderness with amazing views around every bend in the creek.
I had the great pleasure of hiking through this amazing forest on September 1st, 2011, with fellow photographers Aaron Campbell and Tim Devine as our intrepid guide. It was a great day...
About Gene Walls
I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...
