Description
As some friends are aware, I have been photographing this abandoned farmhouse for over three years. Yesterday, I actually met the grandson of original owners of this Forgotten Farmhouse.
Denny Wagner and his wife Brenda, were kind enough to share some of the history behind this most unusual place. I listened very carefully as the Wagners told me as much as they could remember about the old family homestead.
They explained that house was built in the 1800's. A barn and a couple outbuildings used to stand near the house, but everything except the house itself was torn down many years ago. Denny's grandparents lived in this home and his dad was raised here when he was young. The family built a new home in the early 1950's, just down the hill from this location. The grandparents moved their family into their new home. That was the last time that anyone ever occupied this old farmhouse.
The Wagner's told me the sad news that this abandoned house is likely to be torn down in the near future. The new owner wants to reclaim the land to provide more plowable space in this very productive field.
After speaking to the Wagners, I went in much closer to shoot a few more detailed shots of the house. This has been one of my favorite subjects to photograph over the last few years.
This photo was taken from the middle of the unplowed potion of the farmer's field, on the Bartlow road side. While it still stands, the farmhouse can be found by taking Exchange Road to Bartlow, about a quarter mile from RT-442. It is just a few miles east of Clarkstown, Pennsylvania, USA.
This photograph was captured with a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera body. The aperture was set to f/9.5 and the shutter speed was 1/60th sec, at the 230mm focal length. The ISO was set to 100.
