Artist's Description

Ganoga Falls is the tallest of the 22 named waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park, with a dramatic 94 foot drop. This wonderful PA State Park is located along RT-118 in north eastern Pennsylvania, near the village of Red Rock, PA.

The Ganoga waterfall is about 3 mi. from the Trail Head parking area, on the Falls Trail. Normally, that's nearly half of the way to Lake Jean, which was my original destination. The trail also has a 1,350 foot elevation rise, from Trail Head to Lake Jean. Unfortunately, the last mile of Falls Trail trail was temporarily closed. Much to my surprise, an additional 3.5 miles had to be added on the normal 7.2 mile hike.

There was an interesting event that had happened about a half hour before I snapped this image. A large dead tree on the left side of the very top of the falls had just toppled over, crashing onto a healthy mature tree on the right side of the stream. I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...
