Gene Walls replied:

Thank you very kindly, Donna! This is one of my favorite places on earth. I can't even count the number of photos I've snapped at this waterfall, starting way back in the late 70's. I'm so glad you like this photo! Best wishes, Gene

Great shot Gene. I love the perspective and that you are able to include the sky in your composition. Nice exposure throughout and I like the shutter speed chosen. Voted

Very nice work in Broad sunlight!

Gene Walls replied:

Thank you very kindly, Robert! Waterfalls and direct sunlight don't usually get along very well in photos. It took 2 stacked filters to control the blow-outs on this one. Best regards, Gene

Artist's Description

R. B. Ricketts falls is one of the most beautiful sites in this amazing protected wilderness area know as Ricketts Glen. The sky was crystal clear and the deepest blue ever. New spring leaves were just starting to show on the surrounding trees, with that bright green color that is reserved for this time of the year.

Ricketts Glen State Park is located beside the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, about half way between the cities of Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.

R. B. Ricketts Falls is the third named waterfall above the Waters Meet point, on the Glen Leigh Trail.

This image was shot with a Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the widest focal length of 17mm. A ND4 neutral density filter was stacked on the lens, with a circular polarizing filter in front. The aperture was set to f/19. Three bracketed exposures were shot with an average shutter speed of 1/2 second at IS...

Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...
