awesome picture. I have a bunch of copper hawks around my house. I've been trying to get a clear picture of them but like you said, as soon as you are ready, they take off. I have had a couple of Red tail hawks but the only one I have on here is the hawk watching the sunrise. Facebook.com/tandaphotography is my other site incase you get bored and want to see more.

Thank you very kindly, Timothy! Best regards, Gene

Artist's Description

This majestic Cooper's Hawk has been in my "sights" for over two years. I could never quite capture a clear image of this extremely elusive creature, until this very special winter day!

He was guardedly eating his prey when I caught a glimpse of him in the pines. I grabbed a 350mm lens, in the hope that he would still be there by the time had it locked 'n loaded. I was as "stealthy" as humanly possible, but he saw me just as I raised my camera to my eye. He definitely let me know that my presence was totally unwelcome with a loud screech. He made quite a fuss for a second or two, and then stuck around for a few minutes to finish his meal.

This picture was taken on February 4th, 2009, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA, in a pine tree at the edge of my property. The photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens. The focal length was 350mm. The shutter speed was 1/60th sec. at f/5.6. The ISO was set to 200.

I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...
