Artist's Description

The Hillsgrove Covered Bridge crosses Loyalsock Creek on Covered Bridge Road (off of Splash Dam Road) along PA Route 87, 26 miles north of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, USA. This site is about five miles south of Forksvill, PA, and can be seen while driving by on RT-87. It is Sullivan County's longest covered span, with a total length of 171 feet. This bridge was originally built in 1850 using the "Burr Arch" design. The Hillsgrove Covered Bridge was the very first Pennsylvania covered bridge that was ever officially listed on the US National Register of Historic Places. That proclamation was issued on July 2, 1973.

This bridge had been badly damage by two terrible tropical storms named Irene and Lee, last year in late September. The span had to be closed because it was no longer safe to use. The Sullivan County Commissioners quickly hired a highly experienced architectural firm, LDG, and a dedicated construction company to repair this severely damaged structure. The restoratio...

I was born in the wild hills of West Virginia, raised in western Maryland and currently live in north central Pennsylvania, USA. My higher education includes Theological Studies, Electronics Engineering, Audio Engineering and Visual Arts. I taught a Media course at Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn State Affiliate). Photography has been an integral part of my life since the mid 1960's. Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...
