Description
Oneida Falls goes through big changes as the calendar pages turn. Last spring, Kitchen Creek’s flow was amazingly vigorous. It presented a solid “curtain” of gushing water that streatched seamlessly from one side to the other. Today, with only a few hours before the arrival of the summer solstice, the water levels were back to normal. This allowed the spillway’s ledge to become visible once more.
I have also visited Oneida on a very dry 4th of July. There was only a dripping trickle here …with no splash pool at all, just a dry creek bed below the waterless overhang. These seasonal changes are very interesting to me. That’s what compels me to return to this same spot …again and again, year after year.
This photo was snapped on June 20th, 2014, late in the evening, after the sun had disappeared behind the mountain ridge. This photograph was captured with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 5D DSLR body. The aperture was set to f/5.6 with a shutter speed of 2.5 seconds, at the 19mm focal length, ISO 100.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
