Description
This is The Great One in Ricketts Glen! The huge waterfall shown here is named Ganoga Falls. With a drop of 94 feet (29 meters), from the top ledge to the plunge pool at the bottom, this is the tallest waterfall in Ricketts Glen State Park.
I have photographed this waterfall from the top looking down, and from the bottom looking up. Those pictures never accurately revealed the enormous size of Ganoga Falls. From a short distance away, on the very steep trail, you can get a much more realistic perspective. I think this angle allows the viewer to better appreciate why this is known as the great one in the glen.
This photograph was captured on Monday, May 17th, 2010 with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was set to f/19, shutter speed 1/15th second at the 32mm focal length, ISO 200.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
