Description
The most spectacular waterfall in Ricketts Glen is commonly considered to be Ganoga Falls. With a stunning 94 foot drop, its the tallest waterfall in north eastern Pennsylvania, USA. The shear cliffs and brilliant October foliage were framing this great waterfall in such an amazing way that I simply had to try to capture the surrounding landscape that sets the context for this world famous natural attraction. The deep blue, perfectly clear sky added a special WOW factor to this unforgettable scene for me.
The photo was captured shortly after noon on October 18th, 2011 with a Canon 30D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 17mm focal length. The exposure was 1.3 seconds @ f/18. A ND-4 Neutral Density filter was used with a Circular Polarizer stacked in front. The camera was mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, with a Manfrotto 222 Pistol Grip head. A remote shutter release was also used.
I have to admit it, this was a tough shot to get right. The bright noon sun was shining directly on the face of the waterfall, with plenty of harsh shadows thrown in to keep me honest. I also must admit that I am very proud of the way the photograph turned out. I truly hope that you will enjoy the shot too.
