Description
On a very cold winter day, my camera was mounted on a tripod in a snow covered field. This is the Forgotten Farmhouse, out in the very center of this Amish farmer's field. The house is totally cut off from the nearest road. Obviously this place has never had electricity, running water or telephone service. That makes me pause to think about the hard working people who had once known this farmhouse as their family's home, so many years ago.
This badly dilapidated structure has stood on this Pennsylvania farmland site for more than a hundred years. I have to wonder why it has not been torn down to make more space for growing crops. There surely must be a lot of history behind this extremely mysterious house.
This farmhouse can easily be seen, just few miles east of Clarkstown, Pennsylvania, on RT 442. Exchange Road takes you up the hill to Bartlow Road, where it meets Ridge Road. As the country folk say, "ya can't miss it".
This photo was captured on a cold winter Sunday, with a Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera, through a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L telephoto zoom lens @ 350mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/500th sec at f/8, ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a Manfrotto pistol-grip head.
