Description
This is the Central Cascade waterfall in Watkins Glen State Park. This angle, from below the falls plunge pool, shows the real drama of the tallest waterfall in Watkins Glen. Even though this shot was captured in late summer, after a very dry spell, it was still quite impressive, despite the reduced flow of water.
Central Cascade is located in the "Cathedral" section of the glen, about half way up the gorge. It is just a short distance below Rainbow Falls, the most recognized feature in the park. The arched stone bridge over the falls is beautiful and it also provides another amazing view of the glen.
The park is located at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, in Watkins Glen, New York, USA. This beautiful gorge is in the Finger Lakes region of the Empire State.
This photograph was captured on August 31st, 2007 with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was f/22, shutter speed was 1.5 second at the 70mm focal length. The camera & Lens were mounted on a Manfrotto tripod with a Manfrotto 222 joystick ball head. A remote shutter release was also used.
